The challenge
Most budgeting apps overpromise and box you into rigid UIs where you spend ages entering data only to be frustrated by how it's shown. They also force bank linking but give you no real control over your data. The goal was the opposite: a calm, flexible app that answers what actually matters — where your money is going and what's safe to spend right now.
The approach
Designed and built Valora end to end in React and TypeScript: the visual system, data model, and product flows. The Overview surfaces the essentials at a glance — savings rate, safe-to-spend, cash reserve, and goal milestones — paired with an AI Insight that recommends your next money move. Private by default; your financial data stays on your device unless you opt into cloud backup.
The outcome
Live in public beta as a website, gathering real user feedback to shape the roadmap. Took it from concept to a working product, owning the design, UX, and engineering end to end — with a native mobile app next.
